about

This single was released by the excellent label, Blocsonic and you can get it free here: blocsonic.com/releases/louis-lingg-and-the-bombs/belly-up

To go "Belly Up" means to go bankrupt in english. It also conjures up images of dead fishes, the belly swollen and rooting, floating in the river.

Totally appropriate subject matter for a song written during Covid, I think!
The lyrics of the song are inspired by anti-depressants and more specifically the incredible story of the company Perdue Pharma and the Sackler family. They recently declared bankruptcy to avoid paying 4.5 billion dollars in compensation for the 250 000 deaths caused by their drug OxyContin. Yes, you heard that right! Incredibly, they went about corrupting an entire generation of doctors pushing them to over prescribe a dangerous drug that everyone knew was killing people in droves. They managed to turn doctors into aggressive and murderous drug dealers through a system of disinformation and bribes. Incredible stuff! They'll get away with too! That's a sign of the times if ever there was one when 250 000 lives mean less than even slightly inconveniencing a billionaire. They could actually pay the 4.5 billion fine without even noticing any difference to their lives. Rich people actually paying their fines would shake the system to it's very core so... it ain't gonna happen!

The song also acknowledges that some anti-depressants are actually useful and can really help. So it's a grey area, just like everything. I hope that the song makes that clear too.

Onigiri is the B-side because we think it didn't get enough exposure the first time we released it so... we'll try again! It was already released on the record, Hopeless Love in the Age of the Glitch

about

Louis Lingg and the Bombs Paris, France

Louis Lingg and the Bombs are goddamn punk-rock-garage-electro-big beat-pop-anarcho saviours of the 2 and half minute pop song. The bombs they throw are musical, they come from Paris (they could only come from Paris!) and they'll grab you and demand your instant attention.
Their sound is a mix of ultra-political anarchic punk rock and fizzing children's nursery rhyme riot-pop. Formed in 2006!!!!
